The music industry suffered another great loss Tuesday. LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and one of the founding members of the Dave Matthews Band, died from complications from injuries from an ATV accident over a month ago. He was 46. Dave Matthews Band was my first concert experience here in Binghamton. It was a great show and a great time. Though I haven't followed much of the band in the past couple years, I was always a fan. He will surely be missed.
Germany's Matthias Steiner won the gold the other night for weightlifting (super-heavyweight division). As he was receiving the medal, he held a picture of his late wife who died in a car accident last year. His wife Susann was a strong supporter of Matthias. She actually created a separate bank account just to be at his side in Beijing.
Yes kids, it's that time of year again... where has the summer gone? Though I'm 29, I still get that feeling inside, but thankfully those days are gone. Good luck kids!
Comedian / Daytime Emmy Award winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, 50, & actress Portia de Rossi (Ally MacBeal, Arrested Development), 35, tied the knot the after 4 years together over the weekend at their home in Beverly Hills. DeGeneres & de Rossi exchanged vows, both wearing white, in a small ceremony with only 19 guests. Congrats to both!
Shawn Johnson finally gets her gold on last night's balance beam apparatus. Honestly, I don't know why they call it an apparatus, we get the point. Pretty much no complaints here, results were fair for the most part, Nastia Liukin (US) receiving the silver and Cheng Fei (China) the bronze (again...). The night's honorable mention goes to China's Li Shanshan, who took a nasty fall and slammed her chest on the beam. I knew that had to hurt in more ways than one. Still she got he little self back up there to finish her routine as shaken as she was. I was pretty impressed with all the routines. I'm lucky if I can balance on a sidewalk.
US Olympian, Jonathan Horton took home is second medal (silver) earlier tonight (on our time or whenever the hell it aired) for the Men's High Bar Event with a nearly gold performance. Not that I'm a huge expert in the field, but those four amazing release skills he pulled off were absolutely crazy! If he hadn't taken that small step after landing a triple twist dismount, he most likely would've beaten Zou Kai of China. BTW, he was also fighting a cold since winning his first medal (bronze) in the Men's Team Competition. Not bad huh? Usually I'm lying in bed or just walking around bitching (more than usual). PS: I get cranky.
WOMB TV (Video & Webcast) Every Tuesday Night from 10pm - 12am EST Hosted by Oscar Taerazz http://tv.thewomb.com From Website: Pirate Radio Roots What was once an underground traditional radio station launched in 1996, The Womb initially was shut down three time by the Federal Communications Commission. “We did all kinds of crazy things to keep it up, we put it in somebody’s apartment that was far away and broadcast the signal through the internet to that apartment and then broadcast it from the apartment so that they wouldn’t come our studio,” recalls Duncan Ross, the Womb’s president and one of its founders. Before joining as the station’s chief executive officer/executive director, John Westley tuned into the popular local radio broadcast from his Miami Beach condo. “I thought it was a huge drug bust. They had like 10 squad cars and 50 cops and agents there, raiding this little pirate station,” Westley says. “The streets were all closed and I couldn’t even get to my place. I was wondering why I was getting such great reception inside my condo and it was only one block away, that’s why.”
Global Multi-Media Pioneers In the long run, The FCC provided an unintentional assist by forcing The Womb to seek alternative creative outlets just as the internet online revolution was being launched. The station was chosen as the only live DJ mix broadcast for original Real G2, which was the internet's first distributed media player. Taking a year to get a group of private investors together to fund the operation, Westley provided seed money to nurture ongoing growth. As broadband developed, The Womb added visual artist mixes to a revolving line-up of 55 world class DJs that spin electronic dance music genres from drum and bass to house to acid jazz. It became the first 24/7 live multimedia television station and now carries Internet audiences of 1.5 million each month across 120 countries. “We have diligently worked on turning it into a viable business instead of an on the run pirate station. The Womb always has had great music, DJs, artists and talent but if the FCC’s chasing you around that’s no way to run a business or provide consistent club dance music to fans” Westley says. With the launch of 24/7 live VJ/DJ multimedia mixes and In.TheWomb.com mobile/cellular networks, The Womb continues to develop and support artist expression on a global basis.
"I'm a little disappointed, knowing that I tied," ... "I had the same exact score. That's what made it a little harder to take" - Nastia Liukin These people are killing me. Supposedly this "tie breaking rule" was created back '97 just after the '96 Atlanta Games saying that there can no longer be two athletes winning the same medal. Yeah, lame right? Nastia Liukin (US) and He Kexin (China) both had the same ending score of 16.725 on the Uneven Bars. But the gold went to Kexin due to her routine having "lower average of form deductions", giving her the 0.33 lead against Liukin. Only three out of four deductions were averaged, start and level of difficulty were never factored in, even though both had a 7.7 start value. Overall, all had great routines, but it sucks when this time three girls were affected, especially the one that was knocked down to 4th place not realizing this "tie breaking rule". Yeah, really sucks thinking you won the bronze only to have it snagged from you. Yang Yilin (China) took the bronze... my thoughts exactly. I bet you all thought I was going to rage again? Erick E - Wanna Go Again (Bingo Players Remix)
So tell me how the fuck Cheng Fei (China) snags the bronze medal away from Alicia Sacramone (US)? Fei didn't even stick her first landing, SHE FELL!!! She... Fucking... Fell... and still had a higher score putting in place for the bronze medal. What the fuck is wrong with these blue blazer ass-clowns? Big mistake! I mean HUGE!!! (yes I just quoted Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman) Case in point: China and those fucktard judges can suck it. Alicia was ROBBED, Period. I'm going to end my rant before I get worked up again, so enjoy this tune.
Longmeadow, Massachusetts based band The Future Classics made their debut this year after forming back in 2006. The drummer you may recognize as none other than Mtv TRL host Damien Fahey, who knew? They have a good sound, but don't think it's totally matured yet. I will say that they are one of those bands that will get better in time like many. Their video for the first single "Relax" is based on the Brad Pitt movie "Fight Club".
Lisa Stansfield best known from her hit "I've Been Around The Wold" back in the late 80's then to have the hook used later on by the late Notorious BIG and then Puff Daddy for "Been Around The World" in the mid 90's. She later had a few moderate hits such as "Change" and "People Hold On". With a little help from John Dahlback, he brings "People" back to the dancefloor with this latest bootleg. John Dahlback Feat. Lisa Stansfield - Monchichi (Original Mix)
Did anyone happen to catch the Mens 400m Freestyle Relay Sunday night? If not, you missed one of the most amazing finishes beating France by .08ths of a second. See, that's what you get for talking shit (France). And we got Michael Phucking Phelps!!! Don't think any is calling it the Olympics anymore, it's more "Hey, is Michael Phelps on?". I bet after he finishes competing, the ratings will drop some in it's last week. Who know's, maybe he'll ambush the Track & Field events just to win another gold medal, making the grand total 74?
Morgan Page - Call My Name (Thomas Gold Remix) Does anyone see what I'm getting at? Gold? Get it? GOLD... MICHAEL PHELPS!!! Anywho... check out this track from Morgan Phelps errr... I mean Page.
(Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes, & Samuel L. Jackson on the set of "Soul Men", due out in October)
Emmy nominated Actor/Comedian Bernie Mac died Saturday morning due to complications from pneumonia and sarcoidosis. He's best known for his appearances on Def Comedy Jam, and starring roles in Charlie's Angels Full Throttle, Ocean's Eleven & Twelve, Mr. 3000, Guess Who? and from The Bernie Mac Show on the FOX Network. He was 50 years old.
Earlier this afternoon it was reported that the legendary singer Isaac Hayes had died from causes yet unknown. He's best known for scoring the 70's classic hit "Shaft" and as the voice of "Chef" on South Park. He was 65.
Both Mac and Hayes will appear in the movie Soul Men slated for an October release. Hayes had just finished filming a short part in the upcoming pic.
Arizona producers Tony Edit & Louie Fresh make up this electronic act known as the Disco Villains. Not sure how new to the scene they are as I just recently discovered them. They have a very fun, hard, and crunchy sound that many would enjoy.
Adam K - You're Not Alone (Adam K & Soha Remix) Floaty electro-house tune, sounds typical of these guys, more-so on how they capture that "late night, going home after the big party" kind of vibe. Very well done!
Hot Pink Delorean puts their spin on Britney's latest from the Blackout album. A really good drivey grungy rockin' electro track. I like to see more "not so mainstream" producers stepping up and brave up to take on a Britney track as an official remix rather than some bootleg white label.
Friggin ripper!!! Only wish the mix was longer... DJ Kue "nastyfies" (I just made that up) "Homecoming" by Kanye West feat. Chris Martin (Coldplay). BTW, Kanye's vocals were completely cut out unfortunately, but it's a good filler to pump up the crowd (Hype! Hype!)
Song had to grow on me a bit, pretty much diggin it now since released. However, disappointed with the remixes with the exception of Dave Aude's, who kills it. His stuff has been amazing this year, especially his works with Ashlee Simpson (Outta My Head & Little Miss Obsessive) and Blake Lewis (How Many Words). Aude has made appearances on the PCD reality show as one of the judges. Definitely one of my faves for 2008.
